Optomistic Products: leading in superior customer solutions for the automated testing of LEDs.

Penta Sensors

The Universal LightProbe Penta sensors are our most popular product, providing accurate LED color test (for blue, green, yellow/amber, orange, red, and also white) and LED intensity response.

The Universal LightProbe Penta sensors are general-purpose sensors for checking any of the five main LED colors including blue, green, yellow/amber, orange, red, and also white.

Universal LightProbe Penta sensors check the LED color by providing a unique voltage output for each color, eliminating the need to convert LED wavelength to visual color in the ATE software, which effectively improves the overall response time to test an LED.

The Universal LightProbe Penta sensors also test an exceptionally wide dynamic range of LED intensity, from dim to bright LEDs, without adjustment. For very dim or very bright LEDs, high-sensitivity and low-sensitivity Universal LightProbe Penta sensors are available.

Universal LightProbe Penta sensors offer increased reliability and versatility as they will operate at any voltage from +5 volts to +40 volts and withstand reverse polarity up to -18 volts without permanent damage. This provides immunity from accidental power supply wiring mistakes and from reverse polarity up to -18 volt "spikes" due to D.C. power line inductive switching transients as well as inadvertent reverse polarity "shorts" testers, while permitting their operation from different D.C. supply voltages commonly encountered in the industry.

In cases where the LED color under test does not fit into the five prescribed visual colors on the Penta sensor, we recommend our Universal LightProbe Spectra or Universal LightProbe Spectra ASCII sensor.

Universal LightProbes Penta sensors can utilize either a small aperture or wide aperture fiber-optic probe, with a wide range of fiber-optic probe types to choose from.   The most popular choice is the Trident, with up to three small aperture fiber-optic probes in a single sensor, enabling the sequential test of three LEDs with one sensor, for a substantial cost savings.  As with all of our Universal LightProbes, the Universal LightProbe Penta sensors are designed to utilize any of our wide variety of fiber-optic probes.

LED Color Response

Universal LightProbe Penta sensors check the LED color by providing a unique voltage output for each color: typically 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5. This eliminates the need to convert LED wavelength to visual color in the ATE software, which effectively improves the overall response time to test an LED.

LED Intensity Response:

The Universal LightProbe Penta sensors test an exceptionally wide dynamic range of LED intensity, from dim to bright LEDs, without adjustment. This graph shows a typical intensity test of a yellow LED. For very dim or very bright LEDs, high-sensitivity (HS) and low sensitivity (LS) Universal LightProbe Penta sensors are available.  As an option, linear response is available.
