The LED under test is very bright – how can I be sure I am receiving an accurate test result?

  • When an LED is too bright, the intensity output of Universal LightProbe Penta, Spectra and Unicolor sensors will be at 4.1 volts. Optomistic Products provides a low-sensitivity option that can be used with any of our Universal LightProbe sensors. Refer to the Application Note on Sensor Sensitivity Ranges, or contact us for more detail on sensor sensitivity and the best sensor for your specific LED test.

The LED under test is very dim – how can I be sure the LightProbe will test it accurately?

  • When an LED is too dim, the intensity output of the Universal LightProbe S2 Penta, S2 Spectra and S2 Unicolor Sensors will be less than 50mV. The Universal LightProbe S2 Penta High Sensitivity Sensor or the Universal LightProbe S2 Penta High Sensitivity Sensor should be used for very low intensity LEDs and the S2 Ultra High Sensitivity Sensor can be used to test LEDs that are extremely dim, including very low light-level LED-illuminated action-indicator switches. Which LightProbe is best for testing finished-product displays, or LEDs connected to high-loss plastic “light-pipes”?

  • Wide-aperture fiber-optic probes are designed for testing finished-product displays such as illuminated switch alpha-numeric icons, and very low-intensity front panel status indicator lights incorporating high-loss, plastic “lightpipes.”

Which Universal LightProbe is best for compensating for small misalignment in a fixture?

  • The Wide-aperture non-contacting fiber-optic probes can compensate for small fixture misalignment errors, as they allow in 4x the amount of light as small-aperture probes and can be set further away from the LED under test to increase the field of view of the sensor.
